Meat Loaf

Recipe is a handwritten recipe from my great grandmother’s collection.

3 lb chopped beaf
1lb chopped pork
2 eggs
½ onion
Pepper and salt to taste
A little grated bread about one cupful
Mix well and form into a loaf. Fry in hot fat until brown. Two hours or a little less is about time enough.

* I love how vague old recipes are. Two hours, or less…who knows, what temperature? It’s all a mystery. I baked at 325 for about an hour and a half. I also substitute beef for venison so that prefers to cook a shorter amount of time than beef. Browning a meatloaf is something I’ve never done or heard of and if you have ever cooked with venison…you understand how hard that was to flip.
